Buddy at 3 1/2

My oldest is already three and a half!  Buddy is such a joy to our lives, and we couldn't imagine our lives without him.

Here is a little view into his life right now.

He is a great big brother.  For the most part, they share pretty well and just love spending time with one another.  Of course, they have their squabbles, but it usually ends up with a hug (with some parent interaction!).

He is also super cuddly.  We always have our morning hugs and you can usually find him in one of our laps to read a story or have a tickle.  He absolutely loves to laugh.  We recently had his grandparents here, and he was just as cuddly with them.

Buddy's energy level has increased ten-fold since his birthday.  If he's not in someone's lap, you can usually find him doing a handstand on the couch.  Legs are usually going every which way.  He's also doing summersaults and he has learned to swing himself on the playground.

We've also just started his first swim lessons, and he is LOVING it.

The child is also extremely logical.  He loves to read (he can read any three-letter word with short vowel sounds plus a little bit more), but he also is starting to understand how to reason.  He'll often tell you how things work, and he'll justify his actions based on how he sees the world.  For example, he's convinced he should be able to go up the slide because other kids do it or why he should be allowed to hit because he's angry.  The nice thing though is that we can usually reason with him about why these things aren't okay in context.

Another exciting thing it that he is potty-trained!  It's so nice to not have to do diaper changes for him.  As a reward to being potty-trained, he now gets to sleep on his top bunk which is very exciting.  Button will eventually sleep on the bottom, but for now is enjoying his crib.

Buddy also loves to help.  He's also extremely fond of babies, and loves to hover over them while talking and bringing them toys.  So cute!

We love you, Buddy!

About Me

Hello! Welcome to my blog. What you will find here are my attempts at sorting through my ideas and implementation of homeschool curriculum and activities that I have pursued with my own two boys. The Beginning I began this blog in 2008 when my oldest was only a year old. It began as a family blog chronicling our adventures as a young family in Seattle. We decided early on that we wanted to homeschool our two sons. Honestly, now, I don't remember why we decided to do that, but we did it nevertheless. We began teaching our children as soon as they could walk and talk. We made many mistakes along the way and so learned to follow the lead of our children in what they were interested in. We focused on delight-directed learning with a lot of outings and fun things to do. When things got rough, we learned to adapt and switch things out. Moving To Thailand In 2015, our family moved to Thailand. We started another blog for our time there, but alas it was not a good fit for us. We had int...

How I'm Approaching... Geometry

N will be taking Geometry this year.  A Little Bit of Background His last year was split between taking his first semester of Algebra I at the local middle school as an 8th grader and his second semester being homeschooled. Khan Academy was a fantastic resource for him to make sure that he didn't have any gaps in his learning. We also used IXL to supplement. He took a math diagnostic right when we started homeschooling, and then took the personalized lessons to make sure he wasn't missing anything from even earlier math. N likes math, but it isn't an obsession for him like it is for his brother. I'm a huge fan of the Art of Problem Solving's courses especially since we loved their elementary series, Beast Academy, when they were younger. However, AoPS is extremely rigorous and expensive if you take their online courses, so they are better suited for students who want to focus a lot of their attention on math. However, they do have a FREE online learning platform for...
