Easter 2012 - Part 3

The weekend after Easter, we made a trip up to Orange County/Los Angeles to visit some of our friends.  We began our trip by renting our car and heading out directly for Pasadena.  But along the way, we first stopped for lunch at Chick Fil-A to meet up with my brothers on their lunch break.  It was good to get one more chance to see them.  (Sorry, Nate, we didn't manage to get a picture of you before you left).

After our quick lunch, we battled the torrent of rain with thunder and lightening all the way up to Pasadena where my friend from high school, Kara, lives.  We had a nice evening catching up with her family and all four of our boys had a lot of fun together doing boyish things!  The next day, we went with them to Travel Town to see all the trains there.  Thankfully, the weather was back to its California norm making for a great day.

I love this picture of us!
On Saturday afternoon, we headed down to the Biola area to hang out with some of our friends from college.  Our friends, Dustin and Katie hosted us and invited some of our other friends over for dinner as well.  We were so busy chatting and enjoying one another that I didn't get many pictures, although the boys did have a lot of fun with their three-year old, E.  They especially liked the train set.

On Sunday, we were blessed to be able to worship in the same church we went to for the three years after we graduated from Biola.  We still miss it a lot.  We then had lunch with Dustin and Katie again.  However, by this time in our trip, our kids were starting to get overly exhausted.  Meltdowns were beginning to be a problem so early afternoon we left to go back down to San Diego.  We made a quick stop to see cousin A and S again before driving the rest of the way home.  It was a good trip, and we really enjoyed seeing everyone.

Monday was our real day of rest.  We slept and took it easy at Grandma and Papa's house for most of the day.

On Tuesday, we went down to see Phil's aunt, uncle and cousins in San Diego.  Sadly, we hadn't seen them in a while, so it was definitely time to catch up.  Buddy and Button had a blast with their older cousins.  They played blocks, did dominoes, and played games with them for a few hours.

See a resemblance?

And with that, we returned our car.  It was a whirlwind of visits and travels over the looong weekend, but totally worth it.  =)

How I'm Approaching... Geometry

N will be taking Geometry this year.  A Little Bit of Background His last year was split between taking his first semester of Algebra I at the local middle school as an 8th grader and his second semester being homeschooled. Khan Academy was a fantastic resource for him to make sure that he didn't have any gaps in his learning. We also used IXL to supplement. He took a math diagnostic right when we started homeschooling, and then took the personalized lessons to make sure he wasn't missing anything from even earlier math. N likes math, but it isn't an obsession for him like it is for his brother. I'm a huge fan of the Art of Problem Solving's courses especially since we loved their elementary series, Beast Academy, when they were younger. However, AoPS is extremely rigorous and expensive if you take their online courses, so they are better suited for students who want to focus a lot of their attention on math. However, they do have a FREE online learning platform for...

About Me

Hello! Welcome to my blog. What you will find here are my attempts at sorting through my ideas and implementation of homeschool curriculum and activities that I have pursued with my own two boys. The Beginning I began this blog in 2008 when my oldest was only a year old. It began as a family blog chronicling our adventures as a young family in Seattle. We decided early on that we wanted to homeschool our two sons. Honestly, now, I don't remember why we decided to do that, but we did it nevertheless. We began teaching our children as soon as they could walk and talk. We made many mistakes along the way and so learned to follow the lead of our children in what they were interested in. We focused on delight-directed learning with a lot of outings and fun things to do. When things got rough, we learned to adapt and switch things out. Moving To Thailand In 2015, our family moved to Thailand. We started another blog for our time there, but alas it was not a good fit for us. We had int...
