Pumpkin Patch

Daddy had Columbus Day off, so we spent the day at the pumpkin patch!

The day started out by going to Frost Doughnuts in Mill Creek.  Phil can't resist the Bacon Maple Bar!

We decided to try a different pumpkin patch this year since we were going on a Monday.  Bob's Corn and Pumpkin Farm looked fun and seemed to have a lot more going on during the weekdays.

We had to get the compulsory pictures next to the pumpkin growth chart.  You can see where they were at last year on my post from last October.  They've grown a bit!  =)

It was a beautiful day to be out at the farm.  You could see for miles around, and the farm was relatively empty.

Thankfully, there was one preschool group there.  We unintentionally sort of followed them around which meant that we got to take advantage of the hay ride and cow train that otherwise might not have been open to us normal folk.

Can you see the boys hiding in the tractor tires?

One big plus for coming to this farm was its kid's corn mazes.  They had a big one too, but the kid's ones were perfect for us this year.  There was a story one where you go through the maze and read a story at each corner. The other maze had you find stations that have crayons to mark your fingers.  At the end of the maze, you match the code on your fingers with the chart to find something silly to act out.  It was quite fun!

We also found a fuzzy friend while walking through the maze.

It was such a beautiful day.

The boys enjoyed going on the cow train.  After the preschool group was done, they got to go on it all by themselves.  Farmer Bob (of Bob's Corn!) drove the tractor for the train and he looked like he was having just as much fun as the boys were.  He tried "cracking the whip" as he called it to give the boys more of a fun ride.  They loved it.

We saw some animals, but mostly just chickens.

Finally, it was time to go get our pumpkins.  We got to go to their smaller patch that hasn't been picked over as much since we were there during a weekday.

We got some good ones!  We loved Bob's Corn, and I think we'll probably make it our new tradition.

How I'm Approaching... Geometry

N will be taking Geometry this year.  A Little Bit of Background His last year was split between taking his first semester of Algebra I at the local middle school as an 8th grader and his second semester being homeschooled. Khan Academy was a fantastic resource for him to make sure that he didn't have any gaps in his learning. We also used IXL to supplement. He took a math diagnostic right when we started homeschooling, and then took the personalized lessons to make sure he wasn't missing anything from even earlier math. N likes math, but it isn't an obsession for him like it is for his brother. I'm a huge fan of the Art of Problem Solving's courses especially since we loved their elementary series, Beast Academy, when they were younger. However, AoPS is extremely rigorous and expensive if you take their online courses, so they are better suited for students who want to focus a lot of their attention on math. However, they do have a FREE online learning platform for...

About Me

Hello! Welcome to my blog. What you will find here are my attempts at sorting through my ideas and implementation of homeschool curriculum and activities that I have pursued with my own two boys. The Beginning I began this blog in 2008 when my oldest was only a year old. It began as a family blog chronicling our adventures as a young family in Seattle. We decided early on that we wanted to homeschool our two sons. Honestly, now, I don't remember why we decided to do that, but we did it nevertheless. We began teaching our children as soon as they could walk and talk. We made many mistakes along the way and so learned to follow the lead of our children in what they were interested in. We focused on delight-directed learning with a lot of outings and fun things to do. When things got rough, we learned to adapt and switch things out. Moving To Thailand In 2015, our family moved to Thailand. We started another blog for our time there, but alas it was not a good fit for us. We had int...
