Last week, we finished reading through our Jesus Storybook Bible during our "Tea Time" in the afternoon. Since we finished, I've been struggling trying to find something to do with Little Buddy and Button for our devotional time. I feel this is especially important as we are leading up to the Holy Week and Easter.
Then I remembered a favorite memory of mine from when I was a little girl. My mom made Resurrection Eggs that we could open up that would tell the Easter Story. We used to do them all in Sunday School, but I thought it would be fun to make them like an advent calendar and open a couple each day throughout the Holy Week.
I followed the directions from here, but this blog has some amazing ideas as well. Here is our set...
I found eggs at the Dollar Tree, and then took the directions from here and put them in a document that I could cut and place into each egg. Then, I just found all the items in and around my home to put in the eggs. It probably took me about 30 minutes to do everything. So much cheaper to do it yourself although you can also buy sets online.
We are continuing to do hymns at tea time as well. I've found that if my kids have something tangible to look at that they enjoy it so much more. Little Buddy loves it when we open and sing from the hymnal even though he can't read so I thought it would be fun to print out the hymns we sing and laminate them.
The first one I did was This is My Father's World. I typed out the words, found clipart, picked fonts, and tried figuring out an open source publishing program. It was a bit complicated, but the boys have really enjoyed having it. But then I realized that there a bunch of great scores of hymns online! So all the work of putting it together was already done for me. I printed out the lead sheets, cropped them, mounted them on black cardstock and laminated them. The boys love holding them and singing along. The lamination makes them sturdy enough for little hands, and we can easily file and bring them out when we need them.
Currently, we've been singing Crown Him With Many Crowns as we lead up to Easter.

What great ideas! We have done Resurrection eggs for several years. I need to sing more with my kids.
