Even though I didn't like science as a kid, I did like math. It's amazing what good teachers will do for you! I've been excited about teaching math to my kids, and have been collecting manipulatives as we've gone along.
Math is one of the subjects that we try to do every day, but every day looks a little bit different. We do math games, patterns, living books, and even some worksheets. Buddy loves them all!
Math Games
There are so many great math games out there, and we have a lot. Every Monday, we pick one together. If it is a little more challenging, we may pull out our RightStart Abacus to help us with our addition and subtraction.
Some of the games we like to play are:

- Hi-Ho Cherry-O
- Sum Swamp
- Dominoes (both traditional and other ways)
- Games involving dice
My Father's World Activity Cards
On Tuesdays, we use My Father's World Activity Cards which is part of their core preschool curriculum. We already had a lot of the educational toys that went with the cards or at least other manipulatives that would allow us to teach the same concept. We go through a few of the cards each day which help develop all sorts of problem-solving skills.
Block Patterns
Wednesdays we do patterns of some sort. We have both pattern blocks and cards, and we also have Block Buddies. The boys love doing both. Buddy especially likes to be challenged and wants to do the hardest ones first. He usually can do it too! And once we are bored with the patterns we have, we can print out even more for free (again, Pinterest to the rescue!).
Living Math Books
I've written before about our thoughts on reading living math books. We are still loving it. Currently, we are still reviewing skip counting of 2s and 10s. Once Buddy has that down, we'll move on to 5s so we can start working on learning to read an analog clock. Buddy loves all the living books and even tries to read them himself. We especially like all the math books written by Michael Dahl. Reading these books is a Thursday activity, but they often get pulled out at other times as well. Our local library is a wonderful resource!
Math Worksheets
I didn't think that this would be something that we would do, but Buddy has really seemed to want to do it. We don't do much, and we try to do fun worksheets like number mazes or even worksheets that involve dice or dominoes. Confessions of a Homeschooler has a lot of great math activities and worksheets that we are enjoying. This is our Friday activity.
Other Resources
One fun thing that we have been doing out side of school time is learning about codes. This is another daddy project. They have been having fun learning about secret codes and code wheels and sending codes to their grandfathers via email. They then get codes back from them to decode. Eventually Phil wants to teach them morse code!
Other things we have around the house in case we need them include Play and Find Out about Math, Animal Counters, Lauri Stringing Pegs, and this free Kindergarten math e-book.
