Pumpkins


My goodness, where did October go?  I've been very tardy in my blog posts here, so here's to a catch-up post for the last month.

The first weekend of October found us at Carleton Farm.  We had a lot of fun picking out our pumpkins, seeing the animals and shooting the pumpkin cannon.











The next weekend we went to Sky Nursery for their annual Harvest Fest.  We made a scarecrow, saw more farm animals, had some free popcorn and hot apple cider and went through their little maze.  The boys had a blast.





The next weekend, we got to see Grandma!  It was nice to have some special time with her.  We even got to go down south to visit Great-Grandma and have some of her famous waffles.



Finally, there was some pumpkin carving to be done.  The boys weren't so keen on the slimy mush, but they were good sports and enjoyed directing mommy and daddy in what they wanted us to carve for them. ;-)






We didn't do any trick-or-treating this year, but instead we went to the Harvest Party at our church.  They had three bounce houses, free dinner, lots of carnival games, and a ton of people!  It was really too crazy to get any pictures while we were there, but at least I managed to get pictures of them in their costumes before we left.  (Button was going to be a giraffe again this year, but as he couldn't touch his belly button (his security blanket), we had to nix that for the cowboy costume.)

    It's just amazing to me how time flies. You are in such a different season of life than the last time I saw you...you have two BOYS, no BABIES, barely really even toddlers!!! They are so sweet. And I love that being able to get to his belly button is his "security!?!" That is just too precious. I don't know that I'd ever heard of that one but I LOVE it. Miss you!

How I'm Approaching... Geometry

N will be taking Geometry this year.  A Little Bit of Background His last year was split between taking his first semester of Algebra I at the local middle school as an 8th grader and his second semester being homeschooled. Khan Academy was a fantastic resource for him to make sure that he didn't have any gaps in his learning. We also used IXL to supplement. He took a math diagnostic right when we started homeschooling, and then took the personalized lessons to make sure he wasn't missing anything from even earlier math. N likes math, but it isn't an obsession for him like it is for his brother. I'm a huge fan of the Art of Problem Solving's courses especially since we loved their elementary series, Beast Academy, when they were younger. However, AoPS is extremely rigorous and expensive if you take their online courses, so they are better suited for students who want to focus a lot of their attention on math.
